The Mathematics curriculum at SISHK is academically rigorous. It is designed to nurture a passion for Mathematics and enables students to use their mathematical problem-solving skills in everyday life. The curriculum is currently divided into a 2-2-2 system, namely two years of lower secondary mathematics, two years of upper secondary mathematics and two years of senior year mathematics programmes.
In lower secondary, the curriculum is based on the Singapore curriculum and prepares our students for the study of mathematics at the IGCSE and Diploma levels. The curriculum focuses on building a strong foundation in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability. Students are expected to be inquisitive and to be able to articulate their reasoning.
For IGCSE, students are enrolled into the Dual Mathematics programme where students read both the Mathematics (0580) and Additional Mathematics (0606) concurrently and sit for the examinations in secondary four. Students will be exposed to advanced mathematical techniques and further develop their knowledge of mathematical concepts and principles.
Diploma students can choose to read the Mathematics Analysis and Approaches (MAA) subjects between the Higher Level or Standard Level. These subjects focus on developing important mathematical concepts in a comprehensible, coherent and rigorous way, achieved by a carefully balanced approach. Students are encouraged to apply their mathematical knowledge to solve problems set in a variety of meaningful contexts.
